What is SkillsUSA?

SkillsUSA is a national organization dedicated to preparing students for careers in skilled trades, technology, and leadership. With over 400,000 members nationwide, it provides hands-on learning experiences, industry connections, and competitive events that help students develop both technical expertise and workplace skills. By participating in SkillsUSA, students gain valuable experience in teamwork, problem-solving, and professionalism—giving them a head start in their future careers.

What is the Competition?

The SkillsUSA Interactive Application & Video Game Competition challenges students to design, develop, and present an original game that showcases creativity, technical skill, and problem-solving. Competitors must create a polished vertical slice of their game, demonstrating engaging mechanics, compelling design, and strong technical execution. Kai and Keith won gold at the regional level, earning them a place at the California SkillsUSA State Championship, where they will compete against top game development students from across the state. Their performance at this competition could qualify them for the national championship—an incredible opportunity to showcase their talents to industry professionals.

What is Incognito?

Incognito is a 3D steampunk puzzle platformer where players take on the role of a detective investigating a sinister factory owner. As they uncover hidden secrets, players use a unique plasma gun mechanic that manipulates the physics of objects, allowing them to pull, push, and interact with the environment in creative ways.

Designed and developed entirely by Kai and Keith, Incognito blends mystery, strategy, and immersive storytelling, making it a standout project in the SkillsUSA competition. The game has already impressed judges at the regional level, and with the right support, it has the potential to shine at the state championship and beyond.
